The Growing Number of Events About the "Internet of Things"

I commented in a blog post last spring that You know when you start seeing a lot of new conferences and forums around a particular technology that it is getting to be a hot topic. Then it was in reference to the number of Supply Chain Assurance events, especially around counterfeit electronics.

Now I am seeing much more buzz around events related to the Internet of Things. Not a day goes by that I don’t hear about an IoT related conference, trade show, webinar and social media event such as Cisco’s weekly #IoTChat on Twitter. Several conferences that usually focus on other areas are adding an Internet of Things component, sometimes in ways that don’t make a lot of sense.

Here is a partial list of IoT related events:

  • AIM, the international trade association representing automatic identification and mobility technology solution providers, is holding their annual AIM Summit on September 8-9. The afternoon session is focused on IoT and SecureRF’s CEO, Louis Parks, will be a speaking about Securing the Internet of Things.
  • The new RAIN Alliance, which is promoting the use of embedded UHF Gen 2 RFID technology in the Internet of Things market, will hold its first meeting on September 9th following the AIM Summit in Washington DC.
  • Later that week, Internet of Things (IoT) & Cybersecurity: Is your IoT safe from hackers?! is the theme of the September 10th gathering of the NYC Information Security Meetup. Louis Parks will be a speaker. Registration is open for this evening event.
  • The Designers of Things conference (September 2014) combines 3D Printing, Wearable Tech and IoT.
  • MIT is hosting The International Conference on the Internet of Things (October 2014).
  • GigaOm is sponsoring Structure Connect 2014: Building the Internet of Things (October 2014).
  • IdTechEx has co-located their Printed Electronics conference (November 2014) with conferences on Energy Harvesting & Storage, Graphene, Supercapacitors and a new IoT event.
  • Remote Magazine is co-locating 3 conferences (November 2014) – Remote Monitoring & Control 2014. Antenna Systems 2014 and Internet of Things West.
  • World Media Online is hosting Internet of Things World Forum (November 2014) in London.
  • RFID Journal LIVE (April 2015) has an IoT pavilion in their expo area.

With the growing hype around IoT, I am sure that more events are being developed. SecureRF plans to be at some of these events and we hope to see you there too.
